Development of Hydrophobic (Water-Proof) Cement

 Industrial Problem for Innovation /

Waterproof cement consists of a mixture of Portland cement & ground limestone or other filler together with an air-entraining agent or a water-repellent additive. Hydrophobic cement can obtained by grinding Portland cement clinker with a film-forming substance (such as molasses, oleic acid etc.) in order to reduce the rate of deterioration when the cement is stored under unfavorable conditions.

Water Repellent at Particle Level, Reduction of Capillary Action, Use of Organic Polymers, Reduction of Sorptivity and Permeability, Expanding Cement Technology can be targeted. The development of a waterproofing Layer, Paint, etc. can also be explored. (LCA)
